Why is Sass Better than CSS?

CSS on its own is a mess. You wouldn’t realize it especially if you are not a developer. So why is it so messy? Because CSS wasn’t designed for big websites. CSS becomes a problem because it bulks up quickly. It increases the size of your website causing it to slow down. It also takes longer for those responsible for the CSS to work and make changes/additions at a later date. It takes even longer if the project is handed over to someone else who isn’t familiar with the coding style in place.

ENTER SASS

Sass improves upon CSS with an array of valuable features. Those features include:

  • Preprocessing – allows for the features below to exist.
  • Variables – store information you want to reuse.
  • Nesting – organize CSS in a visual hierarchy.
  • Partials – small Sass files to include in other files.
  • Import – split your CSS into smaller, more maintainable portions.
  • Mixing – make groups of CSS declarations that you want to reuse.
  • Inheritance – share a set of CSS properties from one selector to another.
  • Operators – perform mathematical calculations.

SAVES TIME AND MONEY

Any project can benefit from Sass and the bottom line is that Sass saves time and money. At Wrecking Ball, we proudly use Sass with all of our projects.
