World Alpine Ski Championship

The Vail Valley Foundation is a non-profit responsible for enhancing and sustaining the Vail Valley through arts, athletics and education programs. The Foundation also handles global events like the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championship. The VVF was responsible for this prominent event and making sure the venue delivered a memorable experience for all.

VVF wanted to rely heavily on digital to help visitors manage their experience on the mountain. From booking rooms to getting finishing times for your favorite Skier, the site needed to look great on mobile, provide real time data on a mountain with spotty coverage and translate into several languages.

Confronting the issue of spotty coverage with a need for mobile connectivity, Wrecking Ball designed the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championship for smart phones using a custom WordPress base install. This ensured responsiveness for all screens and allowed us to custom fit numerous third party API's including a real time Longines Time keeper that tracked every racer on the course. Then we added on several widgets, a hotel reservation API, Maps for Bus Schedules and Google translate to round out the build. The site performed well, delivered all required data requests and in the words of Duncan Horner, Director of Marketing for Vail Valley Foundation – the site was "seamless and rewarding".
